Product Information

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Grasshopper 20-0-0 with S-Mag is a proprietary blend of water soluble fertilizers, micro-nutrients and accelerators. This high nitrogen formula contains a high availability, stabilized form of nitrogen combined with anhydrous grade Magnesium Sulfate that will achieve complete absorption with 3 hours. Grasshopper is derived from the highest quality technical and food grade nutrients available. Grasshopper’s proprietary design promotes superior absorption and nutrient translocation within the plant.  As a result, activity begins immediately without rain. Grasshopper is recommended for Row Crops, Hay, Pasture, Vegetable Crops, Fruit and Nut Crops, Ornamentals and Turf. Grasshopper is ideal for pivot and drip irrigation systems, ground and aerial applications. It is compatible with Slow Ride and NuCrop NPK fertilizers and micronutrients and can be tank mixed with most herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.

PRECAUTION:

It is best to apply Grasshopper 19-19-19 in the early morning or late evening to maximize uptake and efficiency and to avoid crop injury. As with the use of any agrichemical, crop injury is always possible. Crop stress can be brought on by various environmental and/or agronomic factors, especially those associated with dry conditions and high temperatures. Do not apply Grasshopper to drought stressed crops. The user is responsible for all risks associated with use and handling. Normal vegetative and/or reproductive growth is not expected to be adversely affected in most situations when this product is used according to label directions. Foliar fertilization is intended as a supplement to a regular fertilization program and may not, by itself, provide all the nutrients normally required by crops or other intended plants. Avoid strong acids or contact with aluminum, mild steel and brass. Jar tests should be performed to confirm compatibility before mixing with other components.

RECOMMENDED RATES:

Rates and timing of applications are dependent on local conditions, and should always be made as a result of soil or plant tissue analysis. When used as directed, Grasshopper will rarely supply all the nutrients required by plants. Best results are achieved when Grasshopper is used to supplement a fertility program based on soil tests. Please consult your local Grasshopper Fertilizer Representative, Certified Crop Advisor or Extension Agent for use guidelines. Ground or aerial systems may be utilized to deliver Grasshopper. Use sufficient water to ensure thorough coverage. Unless otherwise listed below, a general rate for most other crops would 5-10 lbs per acre when sufficient foliage is present. Higher rates may be applied if done so first on a small test area to determine acceptability.

WATER/CARRIER RATES:

Sprayers equipped with booms can often spray at lighter gallon per acre rates (6 – 10 gpm) with great efficiency. Some of the factors that support this efficiency are the finer mist nozzles and the height of the boom. These sprayers can often wet/reach every blade of grass or leaf because of the small and numerous water droplets.

Sprayers equipped with boomless or broadcast nozzles need to be operated at heavier (12 – 20 gpm) gallon per acre rates. This is due to less efficient coverage and larger water droplets. Spraying at heavy rates can cause run-off as larger water droplets roll off the leaf and fall to the soil. Although this method results in a certain amount of inefficiency due to run-off (or roll-off), increased results can be experienced due to a greater leaf surface area coming in contact with the product. Using lighter gallon per acre rates (8-10 gpm) can significantly reduce results and efficacy due to a greater number of leaves that don’t come in contact with the product/solution.

Unless otherwise listed below, a general rate of 1 pound of Grasshopper Fertilizer per 1 gallon of water is recommended. More specific and targeted mixing rates can be advised based up various conditions and nutrient requirements.

TANK MIXING AND BLENDING:

Fill the clean spray or mix tank 3/4 with water, begin agitation, add other materials in the following sequence (unless otherwise directed by their labeling):

For Sprayers Equipped with Agitators:

  1. Add 3/4 total water to the tank.
  2. Turn on the agitator.
  3. Once water is circulating and turbulent, slowly pour prescribed amount of Grasshopper into the tank.
  4. After all Water Soluble Fertilizer has been poured into the tank, allow water to agitate/circulate for 20 minutes.
  5. Verify the inline filter is clean and free of unmixed material.
  6. Add any additional soluble powders.
  7. Add any additional liquids (herbicides, fungicides, etc).
  8. Bring water to full volume and recirculate before spraying.
  9. Verify the inline filter is clean and free of unmixed material before opening valves to spray nozzles.

Air Agitation Option – For Sprayers without Agitators:

  1. Add 3/4 total water to the tank.
  2. Close the water shut off valve beneath the tank leading to the filter and pump.
  3. Slowly pour prescribed amount of Grasshopper into the tank.
  4. After all Water Soluble Fertilizer has been poured into the tank, insert Air Agitator Rod into the tank and stir solution slowly until completely mixed.
NOTE: Air Agitation Rod is a ¾ inch PVC pipe capped at one end with holes drilled throughout the pipe and attached to an air compressor hose.
  5. Once mixed, open the water shut off valve beneath the tank.
  6. Verify the inline filter is clean and free of unmixed material.
  7. Add any additional soluble powders.
  8. Add any additional liquids (herbicides, fungicides, etc).
  9. Bring water to full volume and recirculate before spraying.
  10. Verify the inline filter is clean and free of unmixed material before opening valves to spray nozzles.

Tote/Transfer Pump Option – For Sprayers without Agitators:

Required Equipment: Water tank or tote attached to a transfer pump.

  1. Add 3/4 total water to the tote/tank.
  2. Turn on the transfer pump with the return line pouring back into the top of the tote of tank.
  3. Once water is circulating and turbulent, slowly pour prescribed amount of Grasshopper into the tank.
  4. After all Water Soluble Fertilizer has been poured into the tank, allow water to agitate/circulate for 10 minutes.
  5. Add any additional soluble powders.
  6. Add any additional liquids (herbicides, fungicides, etc).
  7. Circulate solution for 10 minutes after all materials/additives have been added.
  8. Verify all material has been dissolved.
  9. Transfer solution into sprayer.
  10. Verify the inline filter is clean and free of unmixed material before opening valves to spray nozzles.

Once thoroughly mixed, Grasshopper Water Soluble Fertilizer will remain in solution permanently. However, certain herbicides, fungicides and insecticides may not. Dilute with water and blend with other nutrients and pesticides only at the time of application and in the amounts required. Constant agitation/circulation is required.  Jar tests should be performed to confirm compatibility before mixing with other components.
